ABILENE, TX. — The Abilene Independent School District has proposed bond projects totaling up to $138 million for the upcoming bond election in November.
A committee composed of community members, parents and students have broken down the projects.
This includes:
-replacing Austin, Dyess and Taylor elementary schools
-new campus for career and technical education programs and ATEMS
-renovating fine arts spaces
-addition of a sports complex at Shotwell Stadium
How does it affect taxpayers?
For individuals over 65 years who have filed their homestead exemption, if passed, their taxes won’t increase after this bond election.
“For people that don’t fall in that category, it boils down to what the appraisal district has their home valued at,” says AISD Superintendent, David Young.
This means that about $0.19 increase for the total tax rate of $1.39.
To discuss further details, AISD is holding meetings for the community. The next informational will be Monday, October 1st at the Cooper High School Auditorium starting at 6:30 PM.
