Amazon is dropping the price of its Prime membership fee for those on government assistance.

According to a statement from the online retailer, those with an electronic benefits card will now qualify for the discounted rate of $5.99 versus the full price of $10.99.

“We designed this membership option for customers receiving government assistance to make our everyday selection and savings more accessible, including the many conveniences and entertainment benefits of Prime," Greg Greeley, vice president of Amazon Prime, said.

Customers will need to qualify with a valid EBT card. However you may not pay for the membership with an EBT card.

Amazon announced it will add other qualifiers in the near future.
