Battling Cancer while Keeping a Dream Alive

"You never forget where you are at when you get that phone call that you have cancer," said Daisy Martinez.

San Angelo — “You never forget where you are at when you get that phone call that you have cancer,” said Daisy Martinez.

Seven years of pain, seven years of going to doctors with no answers, and seven years of what was finally diagnosed as cancer.

“It burns and it hurts. It feels like someone is pouring alcohol inside my stomach. Because I have the tumors that go along with the cancer. There are days when I don’t want to get out of bed.”

Despite her diagnosis she pushed through to pursue her dream.

“I get up every morning and I get dressed, get out of bed. It’s hard but you know what i think god that I am able to open my eyes that day. Come here and open a boutique.”

She beat cancer the first time but she was not prepared for what was about to happen.

“March 7th is when the doctor called me, my oncologist and told me daisy, you are having a reoccurrence. I’m so sorry this rarely happens.”

But she keeps working each day not only to fight the cancer but to keep her dream alive.

“There are days I had to stay in bed. I did not get all sad and depressed but there are moments when you do because we are human.”

“People come into the boutique and they say daisy, you are so put together and you don’t look like you have cancer. But what does cancer really look like?”

It hasn’t been anything near easy but she keeps a positive attitude and contributes her strength to her faith and family.

“I never gave up…I never gave up.”
