Better Business Bureau warns of scams with an increase in online holiday shopping

Data shows 96% of retailers expect an increase in online sales this year.

ABILENE, Texas — According to John Riggins, President of the Abilene Better Business Bureau- online shopping is the present and the future, but a little bit of research can go a long way when it comes to helping you avoid potential scams.

"Tips for holiday shopping include: Do your Research. Read product reviews from trusted publications, check BBB.org for business ratings, and compare prices. Those who did not research firms on a trusted site reported losing money 81% of the time on the internet. Shop Local! Supporting local businesses in turn helps your community. Know return and warranty information. Request gift receipts and pass along this information to the person receiving the gift."

The Better Business Burea also says to be careful when it comes to giving as scammers often try to take advantage during this time.

"A tip for holiday giving is to check out give.org to find BBB Accredited Charities that have fully disclosed information to the BBB Wise Giving Alliance."
