BALLINGER, Texas — Because of a main water line break causing low pressure in south Ballinger, the city is now under a boil water notice.

City Manager Tommy Turney said the leak is coming from a 10-inch pipe. The replacement has to be picked up from Oklahoma. Turney said the problem is currently being worked on, but might not be fixed until Wednesday.

Turney stressed that the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality required the city to put out the notice as a safety precaution.

A press release from the City of Ballinger stated, "To ensure destruction of harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking and, ice making should be boiled and cooled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes."

This includes any water for washing hands/face, brushing teeth, drinking, etc. Children, seniors, and persons with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria, and all customers should follow these directions."
