EAGLE PASS, Texas — U.S. Border Patrol marine agents and the Eagle Pass Fire Department recovered a man's body from the Rio Grande early Thursday morning.
“Crossing the Rio Grande River is both illegal and dangerous,” Del Rio Sector Acting Chief Patrol Agent Matthew J. Hudak said in a press release from the agency. “This tragic death reminds us of the unforgiving and perilous nature of this part of our nation’s southern border.”
On Thursday, agents at the Eagle Pass Border Patrol Station were notified of a possible dead person in the Rio Grande, near Bridge No. 2.
The Eagle Pass FD, assisted by Border Patrol marine units, recovered the body of the unidentified male from the river. Local authorities took possession of the man's remains.
Since October 2018, there have been four reported deaths in the Del Rio Sector.
