October proclaimed as Chiropractic Health Month in efforts to combat the opioid crisis

The benefits of keeping up with your chiropractic health.

ABILENE, Texas — The Texas Chiropractic Association announced the proclamation made by Governor Greg Abbott, naming the month of October as Chiropractic Health Month.

According to the proclamation, “as a first line of defense against pain, chiropractors’ services can help individuals heal naturally without the need for drugs or surgery.”

TCA partners with the American Chiropractic Association in efforts to raise awareness regarding musculoskeletal health.

"For years, medical doctors have been prescribing opioids to help control and manage pain and for the longest time, that was the standard of care. Now, they're realizing there's a lot of issues with these opioids,” West Texas Back Clinic Chiropractor, Ryan Bailey said.

Dr. Bailey see’s patients averaging about 40-50 years old with a variety of conditions. About a quarter of patients at the West Texas Back Clinic are VA patients.

"Those veterans were just given pain pills and pain medication to try to help with that, we're now realizing that that's not the way treatment should be,” Dr. Bailey said.

The clinic see’s patients from all over the Big County and hopes to continue to spread awareness of non-invasive, non-surgical treatments.
