SAN ANGELO —

A San Angelo councilman has a new gig. Harry Thomas, Single Member District 3 representative, has been named as the interim CEO of the Boys & Girls Club of San Angelo.

Thomas has served on the nonprofit’s board of directors for more than 23 years, serving multiple times as president of the board.

A press release from the Boys & Girls Club said, “Harry’s expertise in club matters make him a great fit to act as interim CEO.”

The previous CEO, Ed Lopez, resigned because of health issues after 18 years of leading the organization.

A search committee will begin an immediate nationwide search for a permanent CEO. The search could take up to six months to find the individual with the correct characteristics to lead the organization for the next several years, the release said.

The board has adjusted the duties of staff to make day-to-day operations transparent during this search period.

Boys & Girls Club of San Angelo has been a part of the San Angelo community since 1965, and offers after-school mentoring programs in education, leadership, physical activities, arts, technology and abstinence from at-risk activities.
