The City of Abilene is in the process of drafting a disaster declaration after severe weather moved through the area around 6 a.m. Saturday.
Currently, the majority of structural damage appears to be on the west side of the city stretching from Corsicana to Willis and Hartford/South 14th to South 1st streets. Other damage has been reported city-wide. According to the National Weather Service, the weather Abilene experienced is still classified as straight line wind.
Abilene Police and Fire departments have not received any reports of major injuries or fatalities because of the storm. City utility crews are working to address damage and outages.
Residents are reminded they should consider any down power lines to be active and dangerous, to stay indoors until all weather has passed, and avoid affected areas.
