SAN ANGELO, Texas — An event created by three republican organizations from San Angelo brought several people together Tuesday evening, to support the re-election of Gov. Greg Abbott.
The room full of supporters rooting for Governor Abbott could be heard loud and clear. But, Beto O’Rourke, who is also running for Texas governor was only a couple miles away at McNease Convention Center.
O’Rourke made a stop in the Concho Valley during a 49-day, more than 5,600 mile drive for Texas tour. However, Abbott supporters are not phased.
"I have no fear of him being elected because he is not going to be elected. Texans are going to come out strong and they are going to vote for Greg Abbott," San Angelo Republican Women President Kellye Duncan, said.
Gov. Abbott has made efforts to treat the border crisis. Recently, he sent buses of migrants to New York City.
"New York and Washington DC are supposed to be sanctuary cities where they welcome illegal aliens. Well, how about those 200 and 400 that have arrived but no, the hypocrisy of liberals the hypocrisy of Democrats is amazing to me. It's amazing to me they actually claim one thing and then turn around and do something else," speaker George Rodriguez said.
With less than three months until the 2022 midterm elections, people are already encouraging each other to get out and vote.
"We need to keep our freedoms and we need to be strong and vigilant and get out there and tell people you got to go vote," Concho Valley Republican Women President Beth Uherik said.
The Texas gubernatorial election will be held Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2022.
