Abilene Zoo welcomes herd's third baby giraffe

ABILENE, Texas — The Abilene Zoo announced Friday the birth of the third baby giraffe and totaling seven giraffes born at the zoon since 2016.

According to an Abilene Zoo press release, the calf was born at approximately 8 a.m. Monday, Nov. 9. The calf was born to second-time mom, Punk, weighed 124 lbs and is 5 feet 6 inches tall.

The zoo will hold a gender reveal celebration at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 20 at Twigga Terrace.

Guests will be service cakes, while it lasts, and a live video will be shared on social media, according to the release.

The release also said the female and male giraffes born a several weeks ago have been acclimated to the herd. The giraffes will be on exhibit starting Friday.
