Brady PD called to Lake Brady Friday afternoon following a report of a dead infant found

BRADY, Texas — The Brady Police Department responded to a call at approximately 1:48 p.m. Friday, May 7 to Brady Lake for reports that remains of a dead infant found near the main boat ramp.

According to a BDP press release, when officers arrived, they met with a local fisherman, who took them to the correct location.

The fisherman said he was bank fishing and saw a partially submerged ammunition canister near the water’s edge.

The fisherman removed the can from the water and noticed it was a little “heavy." He decided to open it and found the infant.

Following the discovery, law enforcement was called.

The area was closed to any pedestrian or watercraft and Texas Ranger Joel Timms, Justice of the Peace Maggie Sawyer and Heritage Funeral Home, was called to perform assessments and responsibilities, the release said.

An autopsy has been ordered for Monday, May 7 at the Central Texas Medical Examiner’s Office in Lockhart.  

A definitive ruling on the child’s identity, gender and cause of death cannot yet be made, the release said.

No additional information was available at the time of the release.
