SAN ANGELO, Texas — Shannon Medical Center completed the process to acquire the assets of San Angelo Community Medical Center and will begin operating as an integrated entity starting Saturday, Oct. 24.

According to a press release from Shannon, the San Angelo Community Medical Center and Community Medical Associates will become the Shannon South Campus. The two locations will operate as Shannon South and Shannon Clinic South.

Len P. Mertz, managing trustee of Shannon West Texas Memorial Hospital, said in the release, “This is not only an opportunity to combine the capabilities and expertise of both organizations, but it also ensures we have a strong, viable and independent hospital system capable of providing the best care at the lowest cost for patients.”

Community Medical Center and Community Medical Associates providers and staff will become part of Shannon effective Oct. 24, according to the release.

Because patient care at all sites will proceed as normal, patients may still see their current providers.

The release also said Shannon will honor all existing insurance plans that did not previously include Shannon as an "in-network" to expand access and care for more patients and they should not expect any interruption in coverage.

Shannon will introduce Epic Medical Record System in the CMA offices beginning Saturday. Patients' previous records will still be available and they will have access to the Shannon MyChart Patient Port to access their health information.
