Some City of San Angelo offices will be closed Nov. 11 for Veterans Day

Some City offices will be closed Wednesday in observance of Veterans Day.

SAN ANGELO, Texas — Several City of San Angelo offices will be closed Wednesday, Nov. 11, in observance of Veterans Day. Offices will reopen at 8 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 12.

The following City operations will be closed Wednesday:

  • Station 618 and Santa Fe Crossing senior centers
  • Southside and Carl Ray Johnson recreation centers
  • McNease Convention Center
  • San Angelo-Tom Green County Health Department
  • Fairmount Cemetery's business offices
  • Municipal Court 
  • San Angelo Nature Center
  • San Angelo Animal Shelter

According to a City press release, there will be no interruption of garbage collection or landfill operations.

Fort Concho, 630 S. Oakes St., including the Barracks 1 Visitor Center, will be open for self-guided tours from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with no admission fee. Donations will be accepted.

Additionally, the City invites the community to the Veterans Commemorative Ceremony at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Fairmount Cemetery, 1120 W. Avenue N. Donnie Dunagan will be the keynote speaker. Dunagan is a retired U.S. Marine Corps drill instructor and the voice of Disney's "Bambi."

The release also said the Friends of Fairmont Cemetery Board needs volunteers to place American flags on veterans' graves. Flag placing will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, starting at the cemetery gazebo.
