Abilene Christian University offers free counseling for those struggling with the pandemic

ACU’s marriage and family therapy program is offering five free sessions to help with pandemic fatigue.

According to Dr. Lisa Merchant, increased stress brought on by the pandemic can lead to an increase in divorce, domestic violence, and substance abuse- here is what Angelo Christian University’s marriage and family program is doing to help people cope.

"We are offering five free sessions of counseling to couples and families who are struggling with the pandemic," Merchant said.

Merchant is the program director for Abilene Christian University's marriage and family therapy program. Merchant said the school is offering free counseling in order to help those cope with pandemic fatigue.

"For a lot of families, finances are a barrier especially in a time where there might be more financial insecurities. So we wanted to remove that barrier of finances if we could," she said.

Merchant said the following signs might be an indicator of pandemic fatigue.

“Things to look for might be if your arguing more with your partner or maybe yelling at your kids more than you normally do, maybe you don't want to get out of bed, feel tired, lethargic, maybe don't want to make decisions all of those could be signs you that may be seeking help could be a good idea,” Merchant said.

The free counseling sessions can be done in person or via Teledoc.
