One arrested following officer-involved shooting in Odessa

OPD says the suspect, Severa Aguilar, barricaded herself inside of a residence.

ODESSA, Texas — One person is in custody following an officer-involved shooting in Odessa

According to Odessa Police, an officer attempted to make a traffic stop in the area of 9th St. and Lee Avenue around 12:30 p.m.

However, the person evaded the officer on foot. OPD says during the pursuit shots were fired.

"She turned around, produced a firearm, pointed it at [the officer], and threatened him with it. At that point, he fired some rounds. She was able to then run into a residence that was not hers and barricade herself in that residence," Odessa police chief, Mike Gerke said.

The suspect, identified as Severa Leann Aguilar, 39, barricaded herself inside a residence in the 1500 block of N. Alleghaney Avenue.

OPD says the suspect eventually surrendered without incident and was taken into custody.

Aguilar has been charged with arrested for a parole violation warrant. More charges are expected to follow.

No one was injured and the incident is now being investigated by the Texas Rangers.

"A tense situation that ended as good as it possibly could. No one gets hurt. The officers aren’t getting hurt, the suspect isn't getting hurt, and the suspect goes to jail. I think it’s a success," Gerke said regarding the incident.

No further information is available at this time.
