UPDATE: Abilene PD make arrest in connection to Wednesday's homicide investigation

ABILENE, Texas — UPDATE: (approximately 6 p.m. May 7): The Abilene Police Department said it made an arrest in connection to Wednesday's homicide investigation.

According to an APD release, detectives arrested Fernando Gallegos, 29, of Abilene Friday afternoon. 

Detectives took Gallegos into custody in the 3400 block of North 1st Street.

Gallegos is charged with murder in connection to the homicide of Joseph Rogers that occurred Wednesday, May 5.

Gallegos will be held at the Taylor County Jail in lieu of a $1 million bond, the release said.

The investigation remains active, according to APD.

Abilene Police detectives are investigating a homicide that happened at a home on the city's north side late Wednesday.

According to an Abilene Police Department press release, at approximately 9 p.m. Wednesday, officers were called to a home in the 1800 block of University Boulevard for an injured person.

When officers arrived, the victim had been taken to the hospital with "obvious signs of trauma from a knife."

The man, identified as Joseph Rogers, 26, of Abilene, was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

The release said the initial investigation shows there was an altercation between Rogers and a person possibly known to him.

Next of kin notification has been made.

APD said the investigation remains active and no arrests have been made.
