Abilene Police say no credible threat at Walmart stores, despite social media claims

The APD said Friday that no credible threat exists at local Walmart stores, despite claims on social media. Midland/Odessa PDs have released similar statements.

ABILENE, Texas — Abilene Police released a statement Friday morning telling residents there is no credible threat of an incident similar to the El Paso mass shooting happening in the Big Country.

The release from APD stated the Aug. 3 mass shooting at an El Paso Walmart has spawned false social media rumors about similar violence at stores across the state. Those rumors have now reached Abilene.
