SAN ANGELO, Texas — Damage to the Stephens Central Library late Wednesday night was the result on one vehicle ramming another, causing both vehicles to crash.

According to the San Angelo Police Department, at approximately 10:45 p.m. Wednesday, officers were dispatched to 30 W. Beauregard Ave. in reference to an assault.

When they arrived, officers spoke to the victim, who told them the suspect, later identified as Andrew Moreno, 40, used his vehicle to strike the victim's vehicle at that location.

The victim's vehicle then hit the Stephens Central Library causing damage to it.

Moreno crashed his vehicle into a tree/metal pole and then ran from the scene on foot, according to the SAPD.

Officers were able to find Moreno later and SAPD's Criminal Investigations Division arrived on scene to help.

Moreno was taken to Shannon Medical Center for non-incapacitating injuries. No information was available on whether the victim was injured.

The SAPD said charges are pending.

Tom Green County Judge Steve Floyd said damages to the library have not yet been assessed.

"Right now we are in the clean-up stage, we don't know what's going on. The investigation is still on-going, I know facility maintenance and and the city are working together to get that area cleaned up and to make it safe again, "Programming and Public Relations Librarian, Stephens Central Library,  Amy Dennis, said.

Glass particles landed throughout the children's department, closing down the section as a safety precaution. Staff members have arranged a temporary area where children can read books in the second floor.

"I think the sheep literally exploded when the car hit it and so it's all over in several big pieces and very many small pieces in our children's department. I think it's actually one of the loveliest areas where the children play and climb into the walls and read their books," Children's librarian, Stephens Central library, Sally Meyers, said.

This is a developing story. More information will be posted as it becomes available.

We have sad news this morning at Stephens. If you look at the crime scene photo below, you might note the absence of one...
