BROWN COUNTY, Texas — The former director of Aldersgate Enrichment Center in Brownwood has been arrested and charged with five counts of aggravated sexual assault in cases involving two mentally-disabled females.

According to a press release from the Brown County Sheriff's Office, on Sept. 20, 2019, the parent of a female resident of Aldersgate Enrichment Center reported the sexual assault of her mentally-disabled daughter to the BCSO.

The parent told the department her daughter told her she had engaged in sexual intercourse with Marshall Thornhill, the Aldersgate director of development, on multiple occasions.

Through the course of an investigation conducted by BCSO investigators, it was learned that a second mentally-disabled female resident had also reportedly been sexually assaulted by Thornhill.

Thornhill resigned his position at Aldersgate immediately following the sexual assault report.

On Jan. 23, 2020, charges against Thornhill were presented to a Brown County grand jury, who then indicted him on five counts of aggravated sexual assault.

Thornhill was found in Lubbock, where he was arrested and transported to the Brown County Jail on Feb. 3, 2020. He was later released on $80,000 in bond
