San Angelo Police recover stolen taxi, fare and IDs

A 30-year-old woman was arrested after officers conducted a felony traffic stop on a stolen taxi. She was found with IDs and bank cards belonging to other people.

SAN ANGELO, Texas — At approximately 3:40 p.m. Tuesday, July 7, San Angelo Police Department officers were dispatched to the area of Lindell and Bertha streets on a report of a woman who stole a taxi from its driver.

Units responded to the area and quickly found the stolen taxi van near Juanita Avenue and Woodlawn Drive. Officers conducted a felony traffic stop and took the woman, identified as Dezarae Enriquez, 30, into custody without incident.

During the field investigation, officers found several pieces of identifying information that belonged to other people including state-issued identification cards and bank cards, as well as license plates and a title that belonged to a recently-recovered stolen vehicle.

Officers also found the taxi driver’s stolen cab fare and tips inside Enriquez’s waistband.

According to the press release from the SAPD, Enriquez was charged with unauthorized use of motor vehicle; evading arrest detention; Class B misdemeanor theft of property; and theft of service. Additional charges may be forthcoming pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
