In the past, parents had to decide whether to put their children in public or private schools. But now parents are looking at another avenue to educate their children.
To give you a perspective, the most recent states come from 2007, when 1.5 million children were homeschooled. That’s up significantly from 2003, when 1.1 million were homeschooled.
And back in 1999, only 850,000 were.
One local parent, Julia Hehn, says she and her husband decided to homeschool their children because of religious reasons.
While public school students stay in school for eight hours a day, Hehn says homeschooling givers her children more time to work on other things besides schoolwork.
