SAN ANGELO, Texas — The City of San Angelo confirmed its first community spread case on Friday, March 27. Community spread means that the source of the disease is unknown, such as contact with an infected person or travel to an area with a high number of cases and also means that people should stay home as much as possible and restrict movement.

As a result of this all camping at parks located around Lake Nasworthy and Twin Buttes Reservoir is prohibited effective immediately and lasting through midnight April 3. The order will be continued beyond April 3 if needed.

Parks in San Angelo continue to be open and the city encourages people to enjoy outdoors and the parks, while maintaining social distance and requires limiting group gatherings to 10 people or less.

The city also urges its citizens to help limit the spread of the virus through good hygiene practices:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are unavailable, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
  • Avoid contact with people who are sick.
  • Only leave home when necessary.
  • Cough or sneeze into your elbow or use a tissue to cover it, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

People with respiratory illness symptoms which includes cough, fever and shortness of breath are asked to contact a health care provider. Calling ahead before arriving at the medical facility is important to avoid potential spread of germs.
