ABILENE,TX. — Veterans all over west Texas had the opportunity to explore career opportunities at the Taylor County Expo Center.
The veterans job favor was hosted at 28 other locations across the state of Texas.
It is made possible by the teamwork of the Texas Veterans Commission, Workforce Solutions of West Central Texas and the Texas Workforce Commission.
The job fair had participation from more than 70 employers this year.
One of the challenges that veterans face is translating their military skills towards employers.
"Not too many civilian companies are looking for bomb loaders, but this individual had experience handling hazardous equipment…. they had experience handing warehouse equipment,” says Texas Veterans Commission district manager, Lawrence Denton.
The TVC has employee liaisons as well as career advisors that are available to fill the gap of unemployment.
