Government shutdown may affect local brewery

It has almost been a month that we have been in the government shut down and as the days continue more people and businesses continue to be affected.

SAN ANGELO, Texas — Zac Marshall is the owner of Casual Pint-- a local brewery in downtown San Angelo. He works hard keeping new and tasty brews available for his customers that they would likely not be able find anywhere else.

Marshall created the Casual Pint two years ago, bringing a new and exciting "city-like" hot spot into a small city like San Angelo.

It's been an exciting venture, but his job could begin to get difficult.

"Right now everything is as usual but that dialogue will change if the shutdown continues,“ Marshall said.

Many breweries across the country are being affected by the government shutdown because they can't get new products from the TTB (Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau).

“Becomes a little bit grey is if they change, let’s say a seasonal is coming out or a small batch that they haven’t had before or any changes where they have to go back to the TTB or change a coal,” Marshall said.

So, how does an owner like Marshall prepare his brewery and his employees for what could possibly come?

"We are hoping we don’t see any hiccup in our ordering, right now we are at 25 days in if we hit 30 40 it will definitely be a real possibility." he said.

His fingers are crossed that the president and congress will come to a compromise soon, but if not, he has a plan to stay afloat.

"We won’t shutdown. We would just order the out of state beers that are already in production so as long as the beers haven’t changed then we can continue to get all of those beers.”
