Brownwood/Brown Co. Health Dept. confirms second case of COVID-19

Health authorities said the source of infection on the latest case is "unidentifiable."

BROWN COUNTY, Texas — The Brownwood/ Brown County Health Department confirmed a second case of COVID-19 virus in Brown County Friday.

The person is a male in his 70s, who is currently in quarantine and no reported international travel.

“We are working with the person to identify any close contacts he had and will follow the guidelines of the CDC and the Texas Department of State Health Services in regard to isolation requirements,” Lisa Dick, Brownwood/Brown County Health Department health administrator, said. 

The health department has investigated the second positive COVID-19 case. The source of the infection is unidentifiable. The individual did not have contact with the person who was diagnosed with COVID-19 March 18, nor did he travel internationally. He, however, did travel inside the state recently before becoming ill, according to a press release from the health department.

Brown County Health Department has set up two hotline numbers for questions about COVID-19. The numbers are 325-642-2635 or 325-430-5933. Calls are taken from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. A health department employee will answer questions and may perform a health screening over the phone.

Should callers need higher level of care, they will be directed to medical care.

The purpose of phone screenings is to reduce the congestion in medical facilities and allow social distancing. Please be patient if not directly connected, the department will answer calls in the order they are received.

Anyone planning on seeing a physician in person should call before arrival.  

The City of Brownwood, Brownwood/Brown County Health Department, Brownwood Regional Medical Center, Texas Department of State and Health Services, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are closely working together to provide the community with the best health practices.   

At this time, no additional information is available regarding the patient. The City of Brownwood has set up brownwoodtexas.gov/health as an online portal with up to date information regarding the confirmed COVID-19 confirmed case, and additional preventative measures. Additional information will be posted to brownwoodtexas.gov/health as it becomes available.
