NEW ORLEANS — The Louisiana Department of Health has reported 273 deaths and 6,424 positive cases of COVID-19, the potentially deadly respiratory disease caused by the new coronavirus.

As of Wednesday, April 1, there are reported cases in 60 of Louisiana's 64 parishes.

Reported cases have ranged from mild illness (similar to a common cold) to severe pneumonia that requires hospitalization. So far, deaths have been reported worldwide mainly in older adults who had other health conditions.
