TEXAS, USA — As the BA.5 omicron subvariant is now reportedly 65% of new COVID-19 cases in the United States and showing an ability to re-infect and dodge prior vaccine immunity, officials are saying it's critical to keep up-to-date with vaccines and boosters.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports hospitalizations are up nearly 9.4% from the previous week. As of Wednesday, Texas had 7,896 newly-confirmed COVID-19 cases and 21 newly-confirmed COVID-related deaths.
New cases of COVID-19 could impact areas with low vaccination rates, according to health officials.
