Should the age to buy tobacco be raised to 21?

We asked people their thoughts on raising the age limit to buy tobacco products.

SAN ANGELO, Texas — A new spending package is about to cross the President’s desk, according to USA Today. If this bill passes, the age to buy and consume tobacco products and e-cigarettes will go from 18 to 21.

The Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids says that approximately 95% of smokers started before they turned 21. They argue that raising the age to 21 would have a massive effect on the youth of the United States.

There were mixed emotions in San Angelo when asked about the new law. Many people supported the age raise because of the dangers that smoking can cause. However, there is the argument that anyone who can fight for their country should be able to buy cigarettes if they desire.

Fox West Texas held a poll asking viewers if they believed the age limit should go up to 21. Every show will have a poll that audience members can participate in at myfoxzone.com/vote.
