Candle lighting ceremony bringing awareness to pregnancy and infant loss

The Hope Mommies Heart of Texas Chapter hosted their annual candle lighting ceremony in memory of those babies who lost their lives too soon.

ABILENE, Texas — The Hope Mommies Heart of Texas Chapter is part of a nationwide ministry that provides local support to mothers and families going through pregnancy and infant loss.

The Heart of Texas Chapter serves Abilene, San Angelo, and surrounding areas.

October 15 is recognized as a day to bring awareness. The chapter held their annual candle lighting ceremony at Abilene Christian University.

"Tonight, we are doing a remembrance ceremony and a candle lighting in honor of those babies,” chapter member and volunteer, Meg Loyer said.

In June 2016, Loyer had a loss of her own.

"My daughter was born at twenty weeks I went into pre-term labor. I had an infection, and so she was born at twenty weeks and lived 45 minutes,” Loyer said.

She said she had a great support system, but she needed someone who could relate to her.

"I think that's what people don't understand about grief and loss is that you still have days even three years later it still hits,” Loyer said.
