A new bill in Congress called the bipartisan Fairness for Veterans Act should help the growing number of veterans in search of medical care.
The bill requires the military to consider mental health in its discharge process.
This plan already has the support of the Senate and 44 veteran service organizations, but Congress only has a few short weeks to act.
One local veteran who suffers from PTSD tells Fox News First the military seems to forget a warrior’s service once they’re out.
“I just kind-of felt like when I was transitioning, I remember signing my paperwork and turning it all in and that was it. You go back in for medical check, you are kind-of set for your own,” Tara Lamson said.
