SAN ANGELO, Texas — UPDATE (July 31): Crews with the San Angelo Fire Department worked into the early hours Wednesday morning to make sure the fire that broke out at EZPAWN, 2018 S. Bryant Blvd., was extinguished.

On Wednesday afternoon, SAFD remained at the scene.

SAFD Asst. Fire Chief Todd Sanford said Hidalgo’s Restaurant, 2020 S. Chadbourne St., will be closed from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. to allow fire crews to remove tin, where a hot spot has been located.

Sanford said the entire structure has smoke and water damage.

Additionally, Sanford said the fire started while the business was open and someone called the store to tell them it was on fire.

Sanford confirmed that a backdraft was the cause of the second round of fire that occurred at approximately 8 p.m. Tuesday; however, the cause of the initial fire remains under investigation.

ORIGINAL STORY (July 30): Emergency crews were dispatched to the EZPAWN in central San Angelo Tuesday evening after reports of a large fire.

As crews work to put out the fire, SAPD asks drivers to avoid the intersection of Bryant and Avenue Q for the next two hours. SAPD also says that all northbound lanes are closed.
