Abilene Police investigating fatal motorcycle crash

The rider was thrown from the motorcycle and landed in the roadway. He was pronounced dead early Thursday morning at a local hospital.

ABILENE, Texas — UPDATE (10:10 a.m. Aug. 11): The Abilene Police Department has released the name of the motorcyclist who died as a result of a Wednesday evening crash.

Joseph Grumbles, 33, of Abilene, was pronounced dead at an Abilene hospital early Thursday morning, the APD said. 

ORIGINAL STORY: The Abilene Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that happened late Wednesday evening.

Officers were called to the crash involving a motorcycle and a car at approximately 9:04 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10, at the intersection of Five Points Business Park Road and the 400 block of Arnold Boulevard.

APD said a motorcycle was traveling south on Arnold with a single rider. A car was traveling north on Arnold and turning onto Five Points Business Park Road when the collision happened.

The motorcycle hit the car on the front passenger side and the rider was ejected from the motorcycle, landing in the roadway.

The rider was taken by ambulance to the hospital in critical condition. He was pronounced dead at the hospital early Thursday morning.

APD said his name will be released after next of kin notification.

The driver of the car was not injured in the crash.

This investigation is ongoing and no citations have been issued.
