ABILENE, Texas — A teen Bird scooter operator was injured Sunday night when he collided with a pickup truck.
The Abilene Police Department said the collision happened late Sunday in the 900 block of Grape Street.
The preliminary investigation showed the pickup truck was northbound on Grape, in the inside lane, while multiple people operating Bird scooters were also northbound in the outside lane. One Bird scooter operator turned left into the path of the truck, causing the collision.
The pickup truck was being driven by a 19-year-old man from Hawley, and the Bird scooter was operated by a 17-year-old boy from Abilene. The scooter operator was taken to Hendrick Medical Center North by Metro Care and was listed in stable condition at the time of the release from the APD.
Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the collision. However, it is still an active investigation being conducted by the APD's Traffic Division.
