SAN ANGELO, Texas — “We are able to enjoy our picnic without having any kind of disturbance or having to looking over our shoulder,” Osvaldo Martinez said.
Martinez is a member of the “Devoted Onez” car club in San Angelo, and the club was on Tuesday's city council agenda.
“Our main concern was the loud ordinance,” Club President Tito Reyes said.
Reyes proposed a change in the city’s noise ordinance regarding his 4th annual event that will take place at Spring Creek Marina at Lake Nasworthy in August.
“We had a little problem last year we didn’t think it would be a problem, but it was so this year we are trying to avoid that,” Reyes said.
The city of San Angelo noise ordinance states that noise as it pertains to the lake cannot occur between 10:30pm and 7:00am. As for noise as it pertains to bars may not generate in excess of 45 decibels between 10:00pm and 6:00 am.
“Last year was 12-5pm this year had it done 12-8pm but after today it will be 12-7pm that way we can have more room more time to organize.” Reyes said.
Concerns were brought up if other city events that cause noise later into the evening are held to the same standard for example the Blues Festival, Monster Truck Show and drag boat races.
“It was brought up but we have a understanding not to go over board and not to be loud we are just trying to cover that part so we don’t have a problem,” Reyes said.
The orgaization is happy with the ordinance change and said it is another task checked off their list of to-dos for their annual car show.
“It was very important for the whole car club because we wanted to make sure we were covered,” Martinez said.
