Tuesday, the San Angelo City Council approved the first reading of an ordinance that would increase the amount of Animal Control employees who could write tickets.
The city has half a dozen employees in the Animal Control Office who are certified to write tickets for “irresponsible animal ownership.” For a city this size, that number should be doubled.
This highlights another issue that department says we have in San Angelo: irresponsible ownership.
“It’s every day. It just doesn’t stop with our problem with irresponsible ownership. This is gonna help solve that problem or at least give us another tool in our shed to use to educate and promote responsible ownership,” James Flores, the assistant director of neighborhood services, said.
The Animal Control Office says a police officer can also write citations for irresponsible animal ownership.
