SAN ANGELO, Texas — (Editor's note: This story is available in both English and Spanish. To read the English translation, please scroll down.)

The Mexican Consulate in Del Rio will serve the Concho Valley this weekend through its "Mobile Counsul".

The San Angelo community will have the opportunity to receive a variety of services such as personal identity documents, protection and civil registration.

Titular Consul Paloma Villaseñor Vargas tells us how technology has played a significant role in helping people obtain their documents.

Today, thanks to technology we have databases of many agencies of the Mexican government, so that they no longer have to go to Mexico. Remember that before for a person to have their birth certificate, sometimes they would have to travel to some state and to a small town to obtain a birth certificate, well now technology allows us to offer these services in our offices in Del Rio or when we come here in our mobile consul," Villaseñor Vargas said.

The consul mobile travels to areas further from the border such as the City of San Angelo several times a year to provide resources to people who may not be able to travel to the border.

"We are coming four times a year, more or less every two, every three months. We are coming here at the mobile counsul and that is good, the documentation part, but our council also provides many services in the area of protection. That is, when we have a problem, someone who is sick, who is in the hospital, someone who has been detained, someone who has a problem, who crossed and then they were arrested and well, then we can be with them," Villaseñor Vargas said.

Villaseñor Vargas advises the community to take advantage of the opportunity to obtain their documents before they expire like passports, consular registration or credential to vote abroad.

The mobile consul will be in San Angelo from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 25 and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, June 26 at Second Baptist Church,  2600 Chestnut St.
