COMANCHE COUNTY, Texas — A Hewitt woman died Wednesday morning in a single-vehicle rollover on State Highway 36 in Comanche County.

A preliminary crash report from the Texas Department of Public Safety said an SUV, driven by Herman Slaughter of Waco, was traveling west on SH 36 when it drifted to the right, left the roadway and hit a culvert. When the SUV hit the culvert, it went airborne and rolled several times when it landed.

Slaughter was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth with serious injuries.

His passenger, Linda G. Malone, 48, of Hewitt, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The report from DPS said neither Malone or Slaughter were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, which remains under investigation.
