SAN ANGELO, Texas — Sidney Timmer has been the outreach and marketing director at the Concho Valley Community Action Agency for more than a year now.

During her time at the nonprofit organization, Trimmer has been actively involved in the new grant-funded "Healthy Closet Days" program, which first began in May 2022.

This event takes place from 1-3 p.m. on the first Thursday of every month at the CVCAA at the Cactus Hotel and it is organized by the CVCAA and Superior Healthplan.

"One day a month, we just take two hours out of our day to just focus on getting people the hygiene items they need," Timmer said.

The program offers free items including hair wash, a toothbrush and menstrual products, according to Timmer.

"They can pick five big items so we have shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, we have nail kits, full size things of toothpaste, body wipes and so they can come back every single month," Timmer said.

The free items are available to anyone and a small application form is the only requirement upon entry.

CVCAA is hoping to keep the program running through December, but supplies are running out. Timmer said they are willing to accept donations from local churches, schools and other organizations.

The nonprofit organization helped 59 households in July alone and they hope to extend even further.

"We're just trying to expand outreach 'cuz it has been going on a a couple of months...I know there's still a whole lot of people that need it that still haven't heard of it," Timmer said.

The event this month will take place at 36 E. Twohig Ave., in the Cactus Hotel basement.
