The base was nominated for the 2018 commander-in-chief's installation excellence award.
The award recognizes those people who maintain and take care of installations. The Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and 17th Training Wing were all contributors in working together to earn this award. Quality of life, the facilities at the base, and community partnerships were all criteria met for this nomination.
“With that innovational award where it's about institutional culture, that culture is here is one of how do we do it better and for us that product is a better graduated student,” Maj. Matthew Strickler said.
Major Strickler says that while this is a fantastic achievement they are hoping this award is just one hurdle they've jumped in the race to win another award at the worldwide level.
