SAN ANGELO, Texas — At approximately 2 p.m. Wednesday, San Angelo Fire Department crews responded to a structure fire in the 700 block of West 17th Street, between Brown and Shelton streets. At least one ladder truck, rescue truck, multiple battalion chiefs and fire marshals responded.

SAFD Battalion Chief Jay Neely said a team responded to a call originally made by a passerby that saw smoke coming from the house. According to Neely, the fire started in the rear bedroom and was quickly extinguished. SAFD fire marshals are conducting their own investigation on how the fire started.

The investigation is ongoing.
