Houston man dies in collision between two 18-wheelers

One of the drivers hit a guardrail, then hit another semi, according to DPS.

SUTTON COUNTY, Texas — A 32-year-old Houston man was killed in a crash between two tractor-trailers early Monday.

According to a preliminary crash report from the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash happened at approximately 5:20 a.m. Monday, on Interstate 10, eight miles west of Sonora in Sutton County.

The report said preliminary investigation shows one of the 18-wheelers was towing a semitrailer, traveling east on IH-10 and struck a guardrail. It then entered the westbound lanes of IH-10.

It struck another semi towing a trailer traveling westbound on IH-10.

The driver of the first vehicle, Mandeep Singh of Fresno, Calif., was not injured.

The driver of the second vehicleYuniel Maximo Escalona, 32, of Houston was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Joseph Harris. The DPS report said Escalona was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
