Lake View High School set to have a homecoming pep rally, football game

The community pep rally will be at Lake View Stadium on Thursday, Sept. 10. The football game vs. Sweetwater will be on Friday, Sept. 11 at San Angelo Stadium.

SAN ANGELO, Texas — Students at Lake View High School in San Angelo have only been attending class in-person for one week because of the district's phased-in back to school approach. However, believe it or not, the high school's homecoming pep rally and football game are just days away.

"We're going to have our community pep rally on Thursday from 6:30-7:30, but gates open at 5:45. Friday at the game during halftime we'll crown the king and queen," said Lake View principal Zachary Ramirez.

Thursday's pep rally will be held at Lake View Stadium and, because that stadium is not as large as San Angelo Stadium, the crowd will be limited to 1,300 people. Ramirez says the school will likely use both sides of the stadium to allow more space between fans. Each student that is participating in the homecoming event on the field will have two tickets reserved for friends or family members. On Friday, when the chiefs go head to head with Sweetwater at 7:00, Ramirez says social distancing will be easier to maintain.

"San Angelo Stadium is huge, so we won't necessarily have the issues of going to full capacity," he said.

Fans are required to wear masks when entering the stadium but can remove their masks when they are seated at their marked area in the bleachers. Once the game begins, it will be just like homecomings in years past.

"The actual game itself, none of that has changed except that it’s going to kind of be spaced across the whole stadium. For the most part, most of our festivities we're continuing to have and still celebrate past Lake View alumni and try to do what we can to make it as normal as possible, taking everything into consideration," Ramirez said.
