Laughlin AFB conducting flyover event to honor the military and those on the frontline of COVID-19

The special event will occur between 4 p.m. and 4:15 p.m. Thursday, May 21, in San Angelo.

SAN ANGELO, Texas — The frontlines of war might be different than the frontlines of a pandemic, but regardless of the differences, those who serve on both will be honored through Laughlin Air Force Base's special flyover event in San Angelo Thursday, May 21.

"It is an armed services thank you to all first responders, to all those folks that, like us, are on the front lines on a daily basis," USAF Col. Andres Nazario, Goodfellow Air Force Base 17th Training Wing commander, said.

The flyover will occur sometime between 4 p.m. and 4:15 p.m.Thursday. The formation will consist of a T-6 Texan II, T-38C Talon and T-1A Jayhawk. The planes will pass over city landmarks and hospitals, including Shannon Medical Center.

"To be able to recognize the healthcare workers, but also Memorial Day. I couldn’t find a better time for us to be able to execute this," Nazario said.

A release from GAFB said, "Everyone is encouraged to find a good spot to view, snap pictures, show kids (at a safe physical distance!) 10 minutes early."
