MITCHELL COUNTY, Texas — A 22-year-old Palestine man was killed in a single-vehicle crash five miles west of Colorado City in Mitchell County Sunday.

According to a Texas Department of Public Safety preliminary crash report, a 2018 Ford pickup truck driven by Darren Wade Heady, 22, of Grapeland, was traveling west on Interstate 20 in the left lane. The truck veered left, struck a guardrail, swerved to the right, then left, hitting the guardrail again.

Both Heady and passenger Jake Michael Golightly, 22, were ejected from the truck as it swerved right across traffic lanes and hit the guardrail on the opposite side of the roadway.

Heady and a second passenger, Jimmy L. Gonzalez, 25, of Carthage, were treated and released from Mitchell County Hospital. Golightly was pronounced dead at the scene.

None of the three men in the vehicle were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash, according to the report.
