Paint Rock man dies in single-vehicle rollover crash in Coleman County

A 58-year-old Paint Rock man was killed Monday when his vehicle rolled over in a pasture, after veering to avoid a deer.

COLEMAN COUNTY, Texas — A 58-year-old Paint Rock man died Monday night after his vehicle rolled over in Coleman County.

According to a Texas Department of Public Safety preliminary crash report, Curtis Darrell Shipman, 58, of Paint Rock, was driving a 2001 Ford F-250 pickup truck on FM 1929, 11 miles south of Voss.

The vehicle was traveling south when Shipman veered right after encountering a deer in the roadway. Shipman over-corrected left and went into a side skid. The pickup then rolled over in a pasture, ejecting Shipman. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

His passenger, Wanda Elaine Shipman, 64, of Paint Rock, was transported to Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo with critical injuries. According to the crash report, neither the driver or the passenger were wearing seat belts.
