There was some heated discussion at the city council meeting Tuesday morning, all about the feral animal problem and irresponsible pet ownership in San Angelo.

“One thing that comes net to messing with people’s kids is messing with their pets.”

The debate was initially sparked when the animal shelter euthanized a man’s dog after it was hit by a car and they couldn’t reach him.

Now Councilman Lane Carter is calling for an in-depth look into procedures and fees.

Those sentiments were echoed by citizens who also spoke at the meeting.

“I think the shelter out there could be the finest in the country, but there’s got to be a change.”

“Why can’t San Angelo’s animal shelter invest more, a lot more, in T and R, work in conjunction with nonprofit rescue organizations and do more to educate the public?”

“T and R” stands for “trap and release.”
