Two dogs, two snakes dead in July 4 Abilene house fire

The Abilene Fire Department said the fire caused an estimated $15,000 in damages.

ABILENE, Texas — Smoke covered the inside of an Abilene home in the late morning July 4 after a fire broke out in a bedroom, the Abilene Fire Department said in a press release.

A resident returned to the home in the 600 block South La Salle Drive, noticed smoke and called the AFD, who arrived on scene at approximately 10:21 a.m. 

The fire caused approximately $15,000 in damages, but it was put out in little time with no human fatalities reported. However, two dogs and two snakes died in the fire.

The cause of the fire is still unknown.
