SUTTON COUNTY, Texas — Two 18-wheeler truck drivers were killed early Tuesday morning after a collision on Interstate 10, six miles west of Sonora.

A Texas Department of Public Safety preliminary crash report said a 1997 Peterbilt truck-trailer towing a semi-trailer, driven by Luis A. Sanchez, 72, of Sugar Land, was struck by a 2009 Volvo truck-tractor towing a semi-trailer, driven by Servilio L. Placeres Gonzalez, 49, of Houston.

The preliminary investigation shows Gonzalez's semi struck the towed trailer of Sanchez's semi while in the right lane, traveling westbound on Interstate 10, near Mile Post 394.

Both vehicles caught fire at the scene of the crash. Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Joseph Harris. According to the report, it is unknown whether either Sanchez or Gonzalez were wearing seat belts when the collision occurred.
