UPDATE: Man found dead trapped in donation bin door in Brownwood ID'ed by police

The Brownwood Police Department said it is believed the man had been dead for some time when he was discovered.

BROWNWOOD, Texas — UPDATE (11 a.m. Jan. 12): The man found dead Monday, Jan. 11 in a Brownwood donation bin has been identified by the Brownwood Police Department as Patrick Michael O'Conner, 58, of Brownwood.

A BPD press release Tuesday said, "It appears that Mr. O'Conner was attempting to retrieve items from the Good Samaritan donation bin when he became trapped in the bin door. Items were gathered at the scene and information is still being process. This remains an active investigation and detectives are investigating all possibilities but all information to this point, indicates a tragic accident. Our sincere sympathy is extended to the family of Mr O’Conner."

ORIGINAL STORY: A Brownwood man, reportedly in his 50s, was found dead Monday morning in a donation bin door.

According to a press release from the Brownwood Police Department, at approximately 10:40 a.m. Monday, BPD officers, Brownwood Fire Department personnel and Lifeguard EMS were dispatched to the Good Samaritan Ministries Donation Center, 200 W. Chandler St., for a report of a dead person at a donation bin.

The caller told dispatch she believed she observed a man "hanging" from the bin door.

When officers arrived, they saw a man with his head and upper body trapped inside the bin’s donation door.

The report said it appeared he was dead for some time; possibly since the early morning hours.

The BPD said information is still being gathered and the investigation remains active.
